Sumida Model K passenger vehicle

Automobiles began to spread widely as they played an important role in the reconstruction from the 1923 Great Kanto Earthquake. However, many vehicles in the market were still imports and the growth of domestic vehicles was sluggish.
Isuzu’s predecessor, Tokyo Ishikawajima Shipbuilding & Engineering Co., Ltd., terminated its agreement with Wolseley Motors Limited, U.K. and changed the vehicle name to "Sumida" and continued its development effort to produce high-quality automobiles in order to make the Japanese auto industry more competitive.
The company changed its name to Jidosha Kogyo after a merger and reorganization and developed a four-wheel heavy-duty military passenger car Sumida Model J and a six-wheel passenger vehicle Sumida Model K. The Sumida Model K was a 6X4 vehicle and had a superb travelling performance on bad roads. Its spare tire stored before of the door was designed to be a temporary tire when it touched the ground and rotated on an irregular road surface.
