Isuzu Group Responsible Minerals/Raw Materials Sourcing Policy
-
1.Introduction
Toward realizing its mission of “creating the earth’s ‘transport,’” Isuzu Group is promoting sustainability activities across the entire Group, with an awareness of social issues such as human rights and the environment. Toward building a sustainable supply chain, the Group has established the “Supplier Sustainability Guidelines (hereinafter referred to as the “Guidelines”),” through which it promotes efforts toward “responsible procurement of minerals and raw materials.” With the aim of further strengthening these efforts, the Group has established the “Responsible Minerals/Raw Materials Sourcing Policy (hereinafter referred to as the “Policy”).”
The Policy applies to minerals and raw materials that require the promotion of responsible procurement from the perspective of conflict, human rights, the environment, etc. The minerals and raw materials subject to the Policy are set forth in the Appendix.
In order to conduct appropriate due diligence in accordance with the Policy, the Group requires business partners with which it has direct transactions to undertake efforts similar to those under the Policy, while also requiring engagement with the Group’s indirect business partners further upstream in the supply chain, thereby carrying out these efforts across the entire supply chain. -
2.Due diligence process and management structure
The Group conducts due diligence based on a risk-based approach, targeting the risks set forth in the Guidelines and in accordance with internationally recognized due diligence standards and principles.
Supplier surveys are conducted through coordination among relevant departments, centered on procurement-related departments, confirming the traceability of the applicable minerals and raw materials as well as suppliers’ management systems, etc. Based on information obtained through supplier surveys, etc., the Group identifies and assesses risks in light of the characteristics of the applicable minerals and raw materials, relevant laws and regulations, international standards, etc., and, as necessary, requests suppliers to implement preventive, mitigating, and corrective measures, while confirming the status of their implementation. Furthermore, the status of due diligence implementation and the response to individual cases is monitored on a cross-departmental basis by relevant departments within a subordinate body of the sustainability committee.
Significant risks are reported and escalated to the sustainability committee, which deliberates and decides on the necessary course of action. Oversight of the status of due diligence implementation is conducted by the sustainability committee, with the committee’s chairperson serving as the person responsible for the oversight. -
3.Traceability and transparency
The Group establishes and operates a system—including a traceability system for the upstream supply chain—to ensure management and transparency.
Furthermore, while giving due consideration to business confidentiality and competitive concerns, the Group enhances transparency across the entire supply chain by providing customers with relevant information it has obtained and maintained, as necessary. -
4.Grievance mechanism
he Group achieves early identification and remediation of risks by establishing and providing a grievance mechanism based on the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, or by providing a grievance mechanism through initiatives, including industry associations.
-
5.Dialogue, consultation, and partnership
Recognizing that the risks associated with raw material procurement are structural and complex issues, the Group conducts risk management based on partnerships, engaging in dialogue and consultation with a wide range of stakeholders—including not only business partners but also industry associations and civil society organizations.
-
6.Retention of records
The Group appropriately manages records by identifying which records require management and establishing retention periods for them.
-
